Tina: The Tina Turner Musical, based on the incredible life of internationally renowned singer and songwriter Tina Turner began developing in 2016 in London. After a workshop on December 16th 2016, which was attended by Tina herself, the production was officially announced. After two years of development, the musical officially premiered at the Aldwych Theatre on March 21st 2018. The West End production was nominated for three Olivier Awards, including Best Musical. The show opened in Hamburg, Germany in March 2019, post which the producers began the process of transferring the musical to Broadway. The Broadway adaptation features the same crew as the West End production with book by Katori Hall, choreography by Anthony van Laast, set and costume design by Mark Thompson. The musical is directed by Phyllida Lloyd who also directed the West End production and the film adaptation of Mamma Mia! and The Iron Lady starring Meryl Streep.
Tina: The Tina Turner Musical features Adrienne Warren reprising the title role from the West End production. Warren was nominated for an Olivier for the London production. Daniel J. Watts stars as Ike Turner, with Dawnn Lewis and Myra Lucretia Taylor rounding out the cast.

The show traces her humble beginnings in Nutbush, Tennessee as a struggling singer to her transformation into the legendary Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll. Born Anna Mae Bullock in 1939, Turner began her singing career in the 1960s and rose to fame after collaborating with her husband Ike Turner. Much later in life, Tina shared that she suffered domestic abuse while married to Ike. The couple parted ways in 1976 and got divorced two years later.
Tina's tumultuous personal life didn't deter the artist in her and she continued her career as a solo artist in the 1980s. With over 11 Grammy Awards and 180 million records sold worldwide, Tina Turner is truly an international superstar. She also holds the record of having the most sold-out concerts for an artist, which is another feather in her cap. The Tina Turner Musical gives audiences a peek into the woman behind the music and tells the story of a woman who rose above her race, gender, and age to fulfill her destiny.
