The world of magic and theatre collide in this laughter riot of a play – Magic Goes Wrong! The latest production from the stable of the Mischief Theatre Company, it follows the tradition of its earlier hits – ‘The Play That Goes Wrong’ and ‘The Comedy About a Bank Robbery.’ This time, they have the esteemed company of the magician duo ‘Penn & Teller’ who have lent their magic dust to the writing team and created a play that will leave audiences awestruck and in fits of laughter in equal measure. The play follows the Mischief Theatre Company’s ‘Groan Ups’ and is just what the doctor ordered to beat the winter blues and get into a jovial mood for the holiday season!
About the Show
Magic Goes Wrong involves the who’s who of the entertainment world. The play was conceived by the Mischief Theatre Company that is behind a string of comedy hits including ‘The Play That Goes Wrong,’ ‘Peter Goes Wrong,’ ‘The Comedy About a Bank Robbery,’ and ‘Groan Ups.’ It is written in partnership with Penn & Teller, a magician duo whose act in Las Vegas has been a bestseller for years now, although they won’t be performing in the play. The play is produced by JJ Abrams who is known for his work in TV series ‘Lost’ and the new Star Wars trilogy. The show is directed by Adam Meggido and features a talented cast of writers – Penn Jillette, Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, Henry Shields, and Teller.
The Mischief Theatre Company is known for their comedy plays, especially the ‘Goes Wrong’ series where things seem to go awry all the time. A combination of slapstick comedy and witty writing, their plays have the audiences laughing in their seats. Penn & Teller turned out to be fans and decided to partner on a comedy play based on magic!
That’s how ‘Magic Goes Wrong’ came about to be. The play is about a group of magicians who are performing in a show to raise money for a charity event. The acts include the traditional magician with a top hat and doves, a mind-reader, a circus-type double act, American jeopardy magician and a quick-change artist. However, accidents start taking place and things go wrong! Watch Magic Goes Wrong to find out if the magicians ever reach their fundraising goal at the Vaudeville Theatre this winter.
