Anastasia

Anastasia is one of the latest sensational shows to hit Broadway. “One of the most gorgeous shows in years! Luscious, lavish, and a joy that leaves you cheering. This is a grandiloquent feast for the senses you won’t soon forget” claims the New York Observer. The show’s popularity is growing rapidly and over its five month production history, Anastasia has already won the award for Outstanding Production of a Musical, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Musical, Outstanding Choreography and several other major laurels from the Connecticut Critics Circle Awards of 2016.

The lead actress, Christy Altomare is a rising star in the Broadway world and was an honoree recipient of the Outstanding Broadway Debut Performance Award given at the Theatre World Awards in 2017. “Christy Altomare’s emotional presence and honesty is both moving and refreshing. When the star is center stage, the new musical works delightfully,’ says Chicago Tribune.

Besides featuring some of the classic compositions that were made famous in the 1997 movie, such as ‘Once Upon A December’, ‘Journey to the Past’ and ‘Paris Holds the Key’, the broadway show also features 16 new tracks which were written and composed by duo Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty. Directed by Tony Award winner for Best Direction of a Musical, Darko Tresnjak, the show promises to be inspiring and moving, leaving audiences at the edge of their seats from start to finish as they discover the nuances of the character and learn what it means to be royalty.

The Story

Set in the turbulent 1920s in the Russian Empire, the story follows the life of Anastasia, a brave young woman whose past is shrouded in mystery. Years later, a Bolshevik party storms the palace killing the royal family in its entirety.

However, in the ensuing chaos Anastasia manages to escape. In the aftermath of the bloody revolution and the brutal overhaul of her family, Anastasia loses her memory of the event and starts a new life under the name of Anya. Unluckily, her past still haunts her as she becomes part of a conspiracy where she is made to act like the Duchess Anastasia, unaware that it is her original personality. Now, pursued by ruthless Soviet officers who are trying to destroy her she enlists the aid of an ex-aristocrat. Will luck finally run out for Anastasia? Will she meet her grandmother? Will she ever be a princess? To find out, watch the latest Broadway sensation that is Anastasia.
