Andréa Burns and Carolyn Mignini appear in The Rose Tattoo

The revival of The Rose Tattoo is being produced by Roundabout Theatre Company. Previews of the show are slated to begin on September 19, 2019, at The American Airlines Theatre. The original run is planned from October 15, 2019, to December 9, 2019. Here's an update on the The Rose Tattoo Broadway cast!

Trip Cullman’s Broadway revival of The Rose Tattoo is adding Andréa Burns and Carolyn Mignini to its star-studded cast. Andréa Burns is set to replace previously announced Antoinette Lavecchia as Peppina, and Carolyn Mignini is supposed to replace Kecia Lewis as Assunta. This news comes just three weeks before the production is slated to begin its previews. Both actors have an impressive portfolio. Andréa Burns recently essayed the role of Judy Holliday in Willy Holtzman’s Smart Blonde. Carolyn Mignini can be seen in the upcoming feature What Is Life Worth, starring Michael Keaton, HBO’s The Deuce and Showtime's Escape At Dannemora. She has also appeared in stage classics like The Fiddler on the Roof.

The Rose Tattoo also stars Hollywood sensation Marisa Tomei in a major role. Trip Cullman had previously presented this production at Williamstown Theatre Festival in 2016 and was commended for his work. Tennessee Williams’ The Rose Tattoo was first staged in 1951. Since then, it has been revived thrice, earning an aggregate of 5 Tony Awards. Trip Cullman is an accomplished director who has previously brought gems like Adam Bock's The Drunken City and Sarah Schulman's Manic Flight Reaction.

The themes of the play were ahead of its time, which earned it a notorious reputation in its early days. It takes on the issue of women’s liberation from a sexual prism, often offending and scandalizing certain sections of the society. Marisa Tomei plays the role of Serafina, a Sicilian woman who loses her husband and is then torn between attending to her needs and bringing up her children. Trip Cullman executes the symbolic presence of the rose tattoo effortlessly throughout the play. The comedic and melodramatic aspects of the production often complement one another while bringing this rather steamy saga to life.
