With an exquisite set, a brilliant storyline and larger-than-life characters, this onstage spectacle will transport you to a fantastical world full of laughter and fun. So if you want to experience something different but groundbreakingly spectacular this Christmas, look no further than ‘Rumpelstiltskin’.

About the Show

‘Rumpelstiltskin’ is based on the age-old German fairytale of the same name. Although on the surface of it, the storyline may seem quite harmless and childish, the script is actually written with a lot of subliminal meaning, in a ‘read between-the-lines’ kind of style. It tells the story of a King and the demands he makes of a poor, clueless young woman, but that is just the tip of the iceberg. ‘Rumpelstiltskin’ beautifully portrays the ever-popular adage ‘love triumphs over hate’ and also teaches audiences a vital lesson on the price of greed and revenge.

This production stars the mercurial Australian singer and cabaret phenomenon Paul Capsis, as he joins the team that brought to West End, the award-winning ‘Pinocchio’. Having won a number of awards in Australia, including the Adelaide Theatre Guide Curtain Calls Award for ‘Best Show: Musical/Opera’ and the 2017 Ruby Award for ‘Best Work’, you can be sure that this modern, musical adaptation of Rumpelstiltskin will be highly riveting and hugely entertaining.

The Story

It begins with a poor miller who by happenstance manages to speak to the King. In their conversation, to make himself seem important and worthy, the miller lies and tells the King that he has a daughter who can spin straw into gold. The King, obviously very enticed by the idea, demands that the miller send his daughter to the castle so he can see for himself and put to test the crazy art that the miller claims his daughter can do.

As soon as the poor girl enters the castle, His Majesty locks in her dungeon, laden with straw, and demands to see the room filled with gold the next morning. If she fails, death awaits her. The girl, who has not the faintest idea how to turn straw into gold finds herself in a deadly dilemma. How is she going to withstand this? Will she cut a deal with the devil? Watch on to find out!

About Queen Elizabeth Hall

The Queen Elizabeth Hall is a popular music venue, and forms a part of the Southbank Centre, just off of River Thames. It is home to daily classical, jazz, and avant-garde music and dance performances, however, the building is more popular thanks to its wacky shape. This hall officially opened in 1967, with a concert by Benjamin Britten, but since then has seen legendary musicians and artists take its hallowed stage, including the likes of Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Jimi Hendrix, New Order and David Bowie, just to name a few.

Interestingly enough, this 900-odd seater venue currently stands on what once used to be a 19th century tower that manufactured ammunition for guns. One thing is for certain - if you choose to watch a performance here, it is sure to be a blast!
