The revival of Burn This is directed by Michael Mayer, a Tony award winner and best known for his work in ‘Spring Awakening,’ and ‘Hedwig and the Angry Inch.’ The costumes are by Clint Ramos, music by David Van Tieghem, and sets by Derek McLane. Burn This: Broadway Story
Set in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, Burn This explores the lives of four people brought together by a funeral. Robbie is a gay man who dies in a boat accident with his lover and at his funeral, the four people meet – his roommates Anna, an emotional dancer, and Larry, and their neighbors who live in the loft below them, Burton who is Anna’s boyfriend and Pale, a temperamental restaurant manager.
Anna and Pale come together and explore their desire to be with each other, while Anna is figuring out her dance career and the future. Everybody else is disturbed by the death of Robbie and dealing with their own frailty and life decisions. Their contrasting personalities – Anna’s sensitivity, Pale’s emotional instability, and Burton’s ambiguity create an emotional turmoil.
